Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light (ESV).
Last night I was having trouble sleeping. My 11 month old was waking up from teething issues. I laid half asleep in bed, asking God to speak to me. Help me sleep. Bring calm. I saw something play out in my mind. It was sort of a cross between a dream, vision, and perhaps the remainders of a tired brain.
I was seeing myself packing a suitcase either hurridly or under stress. One item of clothing after another was getting roughly shoved in this open suitcase. The shirts had faces on them, representing people I know and knew in the past. Pretty quickly I could see all of the clothes weren’t going to fit. After a few attempts to unsuccessfully close it, I started tossing clothes out. One after another. The suitcase was left almost empty. I smiled, shut it and set it down. I fell asleep by this point or perhaps stopped remembering.
Fast forwarding to this morning, I woke up with the word “burden” in my spirit. My family has been through a lot in recent years. There’s a few things weighing heavy on my heart. Needs. Concerns. Worries. Through all this a still, small voice breaks through. “My child, my burden is light.”
Is there something, or perhaps multiple things, weighing on your mind? Do you feel burdened? Stressed? Burned out? This morning I was thinking of a health scare, needed home repairs, my oldest son with ASD and his needs, trying to be a wife, mother, friend, support etc. I’ve got a super epic case of hat head hair in my attempt to wear these “hats” well. Maybe you relate to what I’m saying here. I can picture someone saying, “Oh lady you have no idea!”
Today, I have a message for those who are struggling with a bulging suitcase that’s too heavy to carry or even drag. Hear Yeshua (Jesus) say, “My burden is light.” Whatever your need is, God is Yehovah Yireh. God provides. We have to do our part. But when we do ours, He does His. People let us down sometimes. For some of you it’s been many times. God is faithful. He will give you peace. You may have to press in to Him to get it but peace is yours. Take it. Choose to think what lines up with God’s word. Don’t meditate on worries or lies any longer.
Unpack the suitcase. Let Him carry you and give you His burden. It is beautiful.
Psalm 37:25-28 ESV I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. He is ever lending generously, and his children become a blessing. Turn away from evil and do good; so shall you dwell forever. For the Lord loves justice; he will not forsake his saints. They are preserved forever, but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
Matthew 6:31-34 ESV Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
