Set the Tone

Psalm 145:1-2 I will extol you, my God and King, and bless your name forever and ever. Every day I will bless you and praise your name forever and ever.

Today is going to be a busy day. I needed to make an emergency dental appointment for my 7 yr old. He’s got an infected tooth that needs to be pulled. My oldest left his room in an utter disaster before heading off to school (non verbal ASD.) There’s other pressing needs to attend to as well.

I didn’t sleep well last night. My youngest woke up twice.

Stressed. Busy. Tired.

Those are the first words that came to mind in describing my day at the moment.

But guess what?

I can override that. So can you.

Some days are tougher than others. But we can set the tone of our days. We can decide if an inconvenience or need is going to cause us to act from a bad attitude (flesh) or from the fruits of the Spirit.

Got joy? It’s a fruit of the Spirit, and one many struggle with. There’s just so many things to be upset about in life.

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

James 1:4 KJV But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

Her perfect work feels like anything but that. But it grows us. It perfects us.

John 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Kindness. Goodness. Gentleness.

Ephesians 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Philippians 4:5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;

Faithfulness. Self control. Peace.

Proverbs 25:28 A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

Romans 12:18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.

1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.

It’s your choice. Do you want to reflect yourself and your flesh or Messiah today?

Who do we want to glorify each day? What are we thinking and focusing on?

I’ve realized, and I hope you do too, that we can take everything life throws at us and respond with our spirit man. We don’t have to be impatient, angry, offended, unsettled, in doubt, fear, selfishness, brashness and undisciplined.

Today, choose as I am to set the tone. If you sense an attitude adjustment is needed-pause, pray, and read your Bible. Say, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. With His help, I’ve got this. I will glorify Him in my thoughts, words, and actions today.”

You can have a good day. Your choice.

Psalm 118:24 ESV This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
